HIT THE BIG TIME: TESA has now launched their revolutionary MINE PREPARATION PROGRAM providing clients with the ability to readily train civil operators to ‘mine ready’ status within a significantly reduced timeframe.

Addressing critical shortages in the Open Cut environment, this program utilises a combination of classroom and field based learning initiatives to efficiently upskill operators in partnership with client operations.

Conducted by energetic trainers with decades of mining experience, this 5 week fee based course provides participants with the required knowledge and skills to safely and competently operate a Haul Truck in a Surface Coal Operations environment.

Working in close partnership with our Hunter Valley based clients the course includes areas such as legal obligations, workplace hazards, workplace safety, basic fire fighting, first aid, environmental awareness, effective communication and Haul Truck Operation.

Check out what our participants are saying about the course:

"This course was invaluable … what this course has provided me with will be of great value during my future career in the mining industry."

"I feel as though I have benefited hugely from attending this course."

"The course perfectly acted as a preparation course and not just an information session... a great environment was created by the trainer".

So, if you have been considering a career in the coal mining industry and don’t know where to start, find out more and lodge your expression of interest here!

TESA CLEAR TO PAVE THE WAY: The lucrative mining industry is not an easy industry for candidates to access yet our traineeship program is currently providing approximately 100 people in NSW with the opportunity and know-how to become a qualified mine operator.

The TESA RTO Department offers traineeships to everyday people who are looking to join the mining industry and provides qualifications such as Certificates II & III in Surface Coal, Underground Coal and Coal Preparation.

Of course, not just any organisation can provide such traineeships with strict guidelines and regulations which must be followed; in fact, every 5 years training organisations such as the TESA RTO Department are audited to ensure quality training and assessing and this year it was our turn!

After weeks of hard work, dedication and preparation by our Training Manager, RTO Administrator and SKILLED’s Quality & Consistency Manager, a detailed, full day audit by VETAB - NSW Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board was conducted on 21 April 2008.

With no fear, TESA’s RTO Department was deemed compliant with the relevant AQTF 2007 Essential Standards and Conditions of Registration enabling TESA to continue providing this valuable service until January 2013.

Approved to deliver training, conduct assessment and issue qualifications the RTO Department impressed VETAB auditors with their "Ongoing Continuous Improvement Program" identifying issues as they occur and taking the necessary steps to rectify them.

So come on, join us in congratulating the TESA RTO Team on their ongoing achievements!

An annual event for members of the TESA crew, this June saw our team partake in the 2008 HUNTER VALLEY UNDERGROUND MINES RESCUE COMPETITION. The event offered a spectacular display of skill, courage and team work and we are excited to announce our team grabbed the bronze medal!

As leaders in the supply of skilled and trainee labour to the Black Coal Industry, the TESA Group understands the critical importance of elite Mines Rescue teams in both the underground and open cut environments. Although infinite workplace assessments and safety precautions are always undertaken, there is an inherent danger in working in the mining sector and it is important to us and our team of workers that there is an experienced crew on call to assist should something unpredictable happen onsite. COME ON TEAM...

Beating the National Average – WOMEN IN MINING: On the back of a recent article featured in the Recruitment Industry ShortList Publication labelled "Miners need to change approach to recruitment" TESA announces their gender employment rate beats the industry average by a mile.

In a report commissioned by the Minerals Council of Australia, studies found ‘women represent only 3% of the workforce at mine sites and mineral processing facilities’ across the nation.

While this may be a forlorn national statistic, TESA Group currently employee 67 female mine workers across NSW and QLD, equating to 13% of the total TESA workforce operating in the Black Coal industry.

Recognising there is still room for improvement in terms of equality in this lucrative industry, TESA encourage both men and women to apply for open cut mining Traineeships which are available through the RTO wing of the TESA labour hire business.

Since the inception of the RTO division in 2004, TESA has steadily increased its female intake rate from 1 trainee in 2004 to 7 in the last year with further placements to take place this year.

Training Manager, Chris Clifford, comments “female trainees offer the same level of commitment and operator efficiency as their male counterparts, and it’s encouraging to see that to date our graduate female Operators have not only integrated well into open cut teams, but have been well accepted by workmates in what has traditionally been a male dominated workforce”.

Major supporters of community activities in rural NSW including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, Hunter Valley Mines Rescue Station, Hunter Region Development Trust and Gunnedah Community Scholarship Fund, TESA proudly signed up this season as supporters of the SINGLETON SOCCER CLUB.

Sponsoring the Singleton Strikers Over 35’s, TESA has closely followed the team as they have progressed through all rounds and are excited to announce the newest members of the TESA crew are now set to take on the grand final challenge! Stay tuned for the results of this epic showdown!
